ADHD is a term that is used for an attention deficit disorder, with or without hyperactive behavior. Not everyone with ADHD is extremely active. Sometimes there's only restlessness in the mind and not in the body. This is often called ADD. Both ADHD and ADD can cause a lot of difficulties, at home and/or at school. What is an Autism Spectrum Disorder, also known as ASD?
ASD is an umbrella term for disorders like Autism, Asperger syndrome and PDD-NOS. The most important characteristics of ASD are: awkwardness in social situations, a strong desire for predictability, high sensory sensitivity and restricted interests. You can find more information about ASD on autismspeaks.org or aboutkidshealth.ca. A video on ASD can be very informative as well.
What is Dyslexia?
In short Dyslexia means having difficulty with spelling, reading and/or writing. It takes more time and effort to learn this and often it will continue to cause difficulties throughout life. This is because a Dyslexic brain processes information differently. Dyslexia doesn't say anything about the intelligence of a person and what he or she can achieve in life.
